How ELMI products can reduce your electricity costs

Energy management systems are the interface between your electricity consumption at the electricity meter, the variable electricity prices and the ELMI storage solution. The combination of ELMI storage solution and EMS allows you to make optimum use of cheap electricity from the grid and locally generated energy – such as PV – to reduce your electricity costs.

For all customers who want to get the most out of their charging station. Thanks to the intelligent control system, your ELMI product can also:

  • Capture exactly the electricity that your PV system generates and that would otherwise be fed into the grid
  • Intercept high load peaks by feeding them back into the local grid and thus reduce your grid charges and power prices.
  • Obtain electricity from the grid at low, dynamic electricity prices – instead of buying at permanently high fixed prices
  • Provide cheap PV electricity for EV charging stations – even when the sun is not shining.

The memory as the core of your smart grid

What do I need the smart meter for?

Installed at your sub-distribution board, the smart meter measures the electricity flows in your grid to the second. This allows you to determine exactly how much power (kW) is currently being consumed or fed into the grid at any given time.

How does the EMS controller use the information it collects?

As an interface, the EMS controller processes the information from the smart meter and the other consumption/generation units in your energy system and creates a system schedule based on the available loads.

How does the ELMI product help to reduce costs?

The ELMI product can now be controlled by the EMS via the ModbusTCP interface: the battery not only enables fast charging with up to 400 kW despite a 70 kW grid connection, but is also available for further optimization. As a central storage unit, it absorbs energy from consumers, buffers it and releases it again precisely when the grid load is high or electricity costs reach peak values. This makes optimum use of the available energy and significantly increases the performance of your system.

Use PV electricity instead of feeding it into the grid

The smart meter allows the power flows of your PV system to be recorded in real time. Solar energy that would otherwise be fed into the grid for around 7 ct / kWh can be temporarily stored in the battery storage system and released again when required – both for self-consumption and for charging electric vehicles

Price-controlled reloading

With dynamic electricity prices, the battery can be charged specifically at times when exchange prices are low. If the electricity price is high, the battery supplies your location so that significantly less electricity has to be drawn from the grid. In this way, you can reduce your electricity costs by up to 7 ct / kWh.

Active trading on the electricity markets

The ELMI products also enable trading on the electricity market. Products are automatically bought and sold on the relevant electricity markets in order to generate additional revenue. These revenues are available immediately and are distributed to the operators – the trading itself runs fully automatically in the background.

In this way, we proactively ensure compatibility between ELMI products and common EMS. We will be happy to provide you with a current list of planned and completed integrations on request. If your EMS provider is not yet listed, you can contact us at any time – we will then check the options together and plan an integration if necessary.

Don’t have an energy management system yet?

Then you can also equip the ELMI products with the in-house ELMI EMS. The ELMI EMS focuses on the optimal utilization of your local site and offers in particular:

  • Self-consumption optimization
  • Peak load capping
